Kristin Phelan, LICSW she/her
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social worker based out of Massachusetts. I am a white, neurodiverse member of the LGBTQ+ community. I am a native English-speaker, and conversationally fluent in Spanish. The bulk of my experience has been working directly in the community, and continuing to be embedded within community work is important to me. I started out working in care coordination with families in the Boston area, and from there I moved into a residential setting and did family, group, and individual work with LGBTQ+ youth with a special focus on trans and nonbinary youth. While working in this setting I worked to open an outpatient branch that specialized in providing individual outpatient therapy to LGBTQ+ folks and their families in order to keep them together.

I believe we heal in community, and that healing involves naming and looking at the systems and structures around us and examining how we are being impacted. I have a particular love of supporting individuals who are neurodiverse, and folks within the LGBTQ+ community. I also enjoy and have experience working with families who are not in a place of being able to accept or understand their LGBTQ+ family member and are looking for support. I have additional experience working with individuals navigating trauma, life transitions/transition to adulthood, anxiety, depression, grief, and interpersonal challenges.
While I blend many different theories and approaches, I am predominantly trained in a psychodynamic approach. Above all, I am deeply passionate about grounding my work in Liberation Psychology and maintaining an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens. My main concern when we begin is getting to know you and your life experience so that I can understand your goals within the unique context of your life. When I'm not doing therapy, I'm a Clinical Director at a nonprofit agency. When I'm not working at all I'm either hanging out with my wife and my one-eyed cat, practicing jiu-jitsu, or finding a new place to hike.
